This latest collapsible bike helmet folds down to one third of its original size

Bike helmets can be a right old pain – on the one hand they can reduce risk of serious head injury by up to 70%, and on the other they’re hot, bulky and ruin your god damn hair.

If you’re cycling to the pub, you don’t want to have to lug your helmet around with you all night, especially because there’s every chance you’ll leave it in the pub garden and never see it again.

Which is why collapsible bike helmets are the best idea ever, and this latest one has really caught our attention – it folds down to one third of its original size and can be shoved in your bag until you cycle on your merry way again.

The FEND helmet was dreamed up by New York couple Sujene Kong and Christian Von Heifner, after Christian was cycling and got hit by a car on the way to brunch – while not wearing a helmet.

The pair went home and began to question why they don’t wear helmets, realising it was for all the reasons mentioned above.

So they decided to do something about it, creating the head protection of their dreams that addressed all these areas.
Collapsible bike helmet is pretty neat

Now, this isn’t the world’s first collapsible helmet, but this one reduces its size by a third.
It clicks to let you know you’ve opened it out properly, then is held onto your head by a durable nylon chin strap. The huge air vents will reduce your helmet hair no end

I currently wear a Bern helmet, which makes me feel like less of a dick than if I were wearing a more traditional helmet, but my god, there is no air flow in there.
Helmet hair is real, people.

FEND has streamlined air vents, so I’d definitely be swayed to switch, for that factor alone.
