According to Deputy Speaker and former NSDC Secretary of Ukraine, Putin can be stopped either by sanctions or military means, but not by negotiations.
Russia might start active hostilities against Ukraine in the Donbas in the coming weeks.

"Large number of troops has been pulled by Russia to the border with Ukraine. Many sources suggest, and it is not secret anymore, that there is still a high risk of large-scale military operation in the coming weeks. It should be rapid, according to Putin's plans, and finish by May 9 in order to demonstrate the power of the Russian Armed Forces," – announced the former NSDC Secretary.

Because of the possible threat, there is growing need to have Western lethal weapons.

"Our guys are dying there for the whole civilized world. We are not asking your guys to come and fight for us. But, give us weapons, so we knew if we ourselves or the whole world supports us. We are standing for the whole world. And we should know whether the world understands this," – added the official.

The Deputy Speaker stressed that the weapon is needed right now, not when the militants decide to seize Mariupol.

He also said that he understands that the major EU countries have a very large impact on the US position on arming Ukraine, however, when Ukraine signed agreement on non-nuclear status, guarantees were given by Washington.
The former NSDC's Secretary also said he does not believe it is possible to agree about something with Putin. According to him, there are only two ways to stop Putin: sanctions and Ukrainian military battalions.

Earlier, the US Senator John McCain warned of a possible attack on Mariupol. He noted that Putin desperately needs to seize a land corridor to the Crimea.
