Several hundreds of Ukrainians who live in the north of Italy held a peace march in Milan on Sunday, March 29, within global activity 'Peace to Ukraine.'

As reported by Coruption.info citing Radio Svoboda, the activity started with a mass and a common prayer in the church of Sacro Volto, headed by Greek-Catholic priests. Then the demonstrators went along main streets of the city under a 15-meters-long blue and yellow flag of Ukraine. The participants of the procession were joined by ordinary Italians, mostly young people.

According to activists, the march was held to explain Italians and the world that Ukraine has never wanted war, but now has to defend itself and resist aggression.

"The Ukrainian diaspora in Italy is one of the largest in Europe. Since Rome is now leaning towards the lifting of sanctions against Russia, we here try to explain that it is a mistake. The EU and Ukraine shall present a united front against the aggressive policy of the Russian government," activist Mykola Berezenskyi said.

Milan demonstration ended with a rally and a flash mob. People unfurled a huge purple heart-shaped banner with an image of Ukraine. This heart was held by the demonstrators in Ukrainian costumes who sang the hymn of Ukraine. At the end of the event, the participants were distributed pieces of peace bread baked by the community's activists.

The peace march was organized by Ukrainian associations of Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, Verona, Venice, Reggio Emilia, and Varese.
