Pentagon supports plan of Arab League to create joint army

The Pentagon supports the plan of the League of Arab States (LAS) to establish a united army to confront the Islamic State militant organization, as well as the Iranian-backed Al-Houthi militant movementin Yemen, U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said on Monday in New York. This is reported by Coruption.Info.

The decision, which was announced on March 29 in Egypt at the summit of the League of Arab States, is an indication that Saudi Arabia, Egypt and their allies will take a bigger role in military interventions in regional crises.
The parties plan to develop a more detailed plan within a month, and are to approve it in its final form four months later, Radio Liberty reported.
At the same time, a coalition of 10 Sunni states led by Saudi Arabia has already attacked Shiite rebels in Yemen.
The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Marie Harf said on March 30 that Washington was still waiting an operational mandate issued by the League of Arab States.
