The decree making the information about Russia’s battle losses in peacetime during special operations a state secret is aimed at "improvement of the legislation in this field."

Spokesperson of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated, Corruption.info informs citing Censor.NET .

During the press availability on Thursday, Peskov was asked whether this law was connected to the events in Ukraine and did such changes imply that Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to sanction any special operations in the territory of Ukraine.

"No, it is not connected with Ukraine. No, he is not going to (sanction special operations — Ed.)," Peskov replied.

According to Peskov, "the improvement of legislation in the field of state secrets is taking place." "In this case, according to the relevant agencies, such (level of) secrecy shows the best correlation with the state interest," Peskov said.

Earlier Thursday, the official web portal of legal information has published Putin's decree, amending the list of information which must be made a state secret.

According to the decree, "the information that reveals the losses of the Russian Defense Ministry personnel in wartime, in peacetime during special operations" in particular, must be referred to as a state secret. Prior to this only the information on losses of the army personnel in wartime was regarded to as a state secret.
