German troops heading for Ukraine (VIDEO)

German soldiers are to participate in this year’s Rapid Trident and Sea Breeze military exercises in Ukraine under the leadership of the United States, according to Deutsche Welle.

“There's great confidence in our ability to provide the military commanders the authority they need to act," said General Jean-Paul Paloméros, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation.

The drills are aimed at supporting interoperability between Ukraine, the US, NATO and Partnership for Peace member nations and have been explicitly requested by the Ukrainian government and military.

In an effort to counter Russia's growing military threat in eastern European region, Germany contributes to NATO's new Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), Ukraine Today reports.

However, according to Germany’s Constitution, a parliamentary approval is required for all military deployments of the German troops – a norm which may stumble the process of deploying the Force, NATO officials said earlier. The issue on possible pre-authorization of the supreme NATO commander to use the  by the Bundestag is to be addressed at the next meeting of the alliance's defense ministers.
