Mutual ban on flight between Russia and Ukraine takes effect

Airline ban, effecting Aeroflot and Transaero, is part of sanctions against 105 Russian companies

Today a mutual ban on direct flight between Russia and Ukraine comes into force.

Kyiv earlier decided to close its airspace to 25 Russian airlines, including the flagship carriers Aeroflot and Transaero.

The airline ban is part of border sanctions imposed by the Ukrainian government targeting 105 Russian companies.

The Kremlin retalitated by banning all Ukrainian air carriers from flying to Russia starting from Sunday.

The respective flight bans will affect tens of thousands of ordinary Ukrainians and Russians.
