Part of the ancient tower of the Genoese fortress in Crimean city of Sudak collapsed. The incident occurred on the night of Nov. 16.

According to the local media, the lack of care for the monument of universal importance caused the incident.

"The restoration work as well as assessment of the condition of the fortress was not carried out. The new authorities are building hotel rooms and toilets in the territory of the ancient monument. The negligent attitude to the sight has led to its destruction," the newspaper writes.
