HSBC BANK has reportedly stopped sending out contactless cards because they are too confusing for older people.

Some elderly customers have been left baffled by the ‘tap and go’ cards which allow instant purchases on anything up to the value of £30.

In some cases, customers have been charged on them when accidentally keeping them next to their travel cards.

The problem known as ‘card clash’ can see a person charged twice, once on their contactless card and once on their touch-pay travel card.

As a result of complaints HSBC has decided to stop sending the cards out routinely, and provide them only for people who request them, it has been reported.

A source from the bank told The Sun: “We were getting complaints from older people who didn’t like the technology.”

But one customer said: “It is a pain for those who do want the cards.”

An HSBC spokesman denied changing how they distribute them.
