DERANGED Islamic State jihadis are likely to attack fan zones and bars during this summer’s European football Championships, intelligence experts have warned.

The depraved militants are believed to be planning assaults during the group stage of the tournament — when France will be packed with British fans.

The Risk Advisory Group made the terrifying claims in a report published last week.

Henry Wilkinson, the group’s head of intelligence and analysis, said a brutal attack on the tournament would “fit with an emerging pattern” of previous attacks.

"They have also hit multiple targets in quick succession, making it harder for security forces to concentrate their response.”

It is though at least 40,000 British football fans will travel to France for this summer’s spectacle which involves England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The tournament will take place in 10 stadiums across nine cities between June 10 and July 10.

Some 57 per cent of those fans will flock to the fan zones and bars that are under threat after turning up in France without match tickets.

“This is because they are more easily accessible, and are in city centres so it is harder for police to establish security perimeters around them.

“The authorities will probably prioritise securing stadiums on match days due to their higher profile.”
