Khaleesi has been crowned Esquire's 'Sexiest Woman Alive!'
The Mother of Dragons is having a moment.
Emilia Clarke has been crowned Esquire magazine's 2015 Sexiest Woman Alive – just after nabbing British GQ's Woman of the Year honor.
In the interview that accompanies Clarke's sultry, nearly nude photo shoot, the Game of Thrones star opened up about how her career has skyrocketed since landing the role of Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO drama.
Clarke was trudging through three jobs – one at a bar – while taking bit parts where she could find them, like in a few episodes of British daytime soap Doctors, before the series began in 2011. When her agent discovered HBO was recasting the already-shot pilot for GOT he made a gamble – which, obviously, paid off.
"My agent told the casting director, 'I know that the breakdown for this character is tall and willowy and blonde. I know she's short and round and brown, but I'd like you to see her,' " Clarke told Esquire for its November issue, on stands Oct. 20.
The actress had no time to get lost in one of George R. R. Martin's books before the audition, and instead "Wikipedia'd the living crap out of" the novel series. She said through her minimal research, she was able to get a grasp of what the character she now embodies was like.
"Someone who could grow before your eyes in one season, who could gather strength and show vulnerability, they wanted the arc," she said.
Clarke, who lives in London neighborhood Hampstead, posed in just bed sheets for some of her Sexiest Woman Alive shoot, while in other images she wore a black leotard. In some photos, shot in black and white, the actress donned a lacy bra and tiny shorts.
