BREXIT has resulted in the world's 400 richest people losing an eye-watering £100billion in just one day.

But rich Britons only lost £4.18bn, according to financial software company Bloomberg.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index says the richest lost 3.2 per cent of their total net worth — now estimated at £2.96bn.

Business heavyweight Bill Gates and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos have both lost more than $1bn (£760m).

Europe's wealthiest person Spanish business magnate Amancio Ortega suffered one of the worst losses, after being stripped of £4.56bn.

The UK's wealthiest were surprisingly not the ones to suffer the most devastating losses, with the top 15 losing "only" £4.18bn.

Ironically Peter Hargreaves, the largest donor to the Leave campaign, lost the most after Brexit, seeing his fortune shrink by 19 per cent to £2.20bn.

But Mr Hargreaves has shown no regret, saying he is ready to work with the British government to shape the nation's economic future after Brexit.

Mr Hargreaves said: “I have enormous experience of business, enormous experience of negotiation, enormous experience of economics, and I'm one of Britain's most successful businessmen.

“If they don't involve me, they're crazy.”

Richard Branson, a prominent advocate of the UK staying in the EU, said he has made peace with the decision of the British people, stressing that the nation's determination, resolve and sense of what is right” would be necessary “over the testing months and years to come.”

Britain's billionaire landowner Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor lost around £760m.

Britons' historic decision to leave the European Union (EU) sent major global equity markets in chaos, with the pound plummeting to a record low in 31 years.

European markets have also suffered since Brexit, falling into the steepest decline since the 2008 recession.
