4 dead in ISIS attack on gas station west of Kirkuk

 

The attack took place near Bajwan village on the main Kirkuk-Dubiz road in western Kirkuk.

KIRKUK, Kurdistan Region- Two policemen and two civil workers were reportedly killed after four ISIS suicide bombers attacked a factory of gas canisters in Western Kirkuk Sunday morning.

Rudaw correspondent Hardi Mohammed said that the attack took place near Bajwan village on the main Kirkuk-Dubiz road in western Kirkuk.

One of the suicide attackers detonated his explosives and killed two policemen and two civil workers the other attackers managed to escape.
Kurdish military officials in the area told Rudaw that fighting is ongoing between police forces and ISIS militants at Bay Hassan village which is a major source of oil west of Kirkuk.

Kamal Kirkuki, commander of the western front told Rudaw that police is responsible for guarding the place but Peshmerga soldiers were also dispatched to the place and that the situation is under control.

“When we were informed about the attack, we immediately sent a Peshmerga force to assist the police,” Kirkuki added.

The frontline south and west of Kirkuk has experienced major confrontations between ISIS and Kurdish forces in the last two years.

According to the frontline commander at least 6,000 ISIS militants have been killed on this front alone.

The factory that resupplies gas canisters to parts of the province is run by the north gas company.
