Dana White details heated exchange he had with Miesha Tate after UFC 205

2323

Other than the surprises that took place during the fights at UFC 205, Miesha Tate dropped a bombshell of her own when she announced her retirement following her loss to Raquel Pennington.

It was the first fight on the main card, and the former women’s bantamweight champion was unable to stamp her authority against Rocky, and a potential third bout with Ronda Rousey is now off the cards, despite her desire to meet her in the Octagon once more.

RETIREMENT

She revealed that it’s now the time for the future to step up, and although she can perhaps still offer a lot to women’s mixed martial arts in general, UFC president Dana White understands why she made the decision to do so.

He said: “I didn’t see the Miesha Tate thing coming, but you know, it makes sense.

“Miesha’s been so tough and durable, and not a tough, durable woman, but a tough, durable athlete. She’s been in this for so long, and I could just tell when I talked to her tonight.”

She didn’t have a lot of time in the Octagon to explain her decision further, as she had to make her way to the hospital and had to miss the post-fight press conference, which could have been even more emotional for her.

HOSPITAL VISIT

White went on to explain that emotions were running high, and that Tate could even have a job in the UFC in the near future.

He went on to add: “Her and I had a little bit of a thing tonight.

“She was refusing to go to the hospital. And I’m like, ‘you’re going to the hospital.’ She’s like, ‘f**k you, I don’t work for you anymore.’
“So yeah. I was like, ‘that’s a good point, but you need to go to the hospital.’ Then I had to start begging, ‘if you go to the hospital tonight, I’ll get you another job doing something else, and I could be your boss gain.’

“So, she went, yeah. She has to go.”

With her level of popularity, it would be a wise move on White’s part to keep her around, even if the retirement does come as a big loss to the roster.
