Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate was looking to get back in line for a title shot this past Saturday at UFC 205. Tate had lost the title in a one sided defeat to Amanda Nunes this past July in the main event of UFC 200.
A win over Raquel Pennington at the UFC’s first show in New York would’ve put her in the mix, but it simply wasn’t meant to be.
Pennington would go on to win a dominant unanimous decision over the former champion, who then surprised everyone by retiring in the octagon after her defeat. After the fight, Bryan Caraway explained to Bloody Elbow that Miesha hasn’t been herself for months now.
“She’s not herself lately,” Caraway explained. “She looked like that in the Nunes fight. She said it last night — her heart’s not in it anymore, so she didn’t care to try.”
