Houston Texans star J.J. Watt made it clear Tuesday morning that he will not retire from the NFL.

Watt has spent the past couple seasons sidelined by horrific injuries, and speculation had been swirling that the University of Wisconsin product might hang it up. However, Watt explains his decision to not quit on football in an emotional piece for The Players Tribune titled “Am I Done?”.

He wrote in part:

Yes, over the last year, I’ve been through some dark times, and my body was beat up more than most people probably realize. But I’ve learned that a life without adversity is a boring life to live.

I’ve experienced the highs, and I’ve experienced the lows, and both are better than living in the middle.

The kid in me is back.

Am I done?

Hell no.

I’m just getting started.

Watt is one of the highest paid professional athletes in the world, and he recognizes the fact that money isn’t needed for his career to continue, stating, “I appreciate how fortunate I am to make the kind of money I do and experience the things I get to experience.”

Only time will tell if Watt is ever truly capable of bouncing back from injury and become a terrifying defensive force once again.
