Hollywood star Debbie Reynolds has died only one day after the death of her daughter, Carrie Fisher. She was aged 84. Reynolds was reportedly planning Fisher's funeral at her son's house when she suffered a stroke.

According to TMZ, her son Todd called 911 to report a possible stroke shortly after 1pm PST (9pm GMT) on 28 Decmeber.

The LA Fire Department had said that a woman was escorted to hospital from an address in Beverly Hills in a "fair to serious condition", but did not confirm it was Reynolds owing to medical privacy laws, Sky News reported.

Her death was confirmed by Todd Fisher, The Associated Press reported.

He told the agency: "She's with Carrie and we're all heartbroken.'' He added that the stress of his sister's death "was too much" for their mother.

Earlier she had posted a statement about her daughter's death on Facebook which read: "Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter.

"I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop."

The iconic actress, who starred in Singin' in the Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, divorced her husband Eddie Fisher in 1959 following his affair with Elizabeth Taylor. She would marry twice more in 1960 and 1984.

Her relationship to Fisher, who found fame in the Star Wars film series, was documented in Fisher's semi-autobiographical book, Postcards from the Edge.

The book was later turned into a film starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine.

Fisher died on 27 December, days after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. She was 60.
