The former soldier arrested after a shooting spree inside a Florida airport killed five and injured six has been charged with murder.

Esteban Santiago, 26,  is alleged to have opened fire in baggage collection at Terminal 2 in Fort Lauderdale International Airport

The 26-year-old, who served two tours in Iraq, flew into the airport with a legally-checked in gun in his baggage before withdrawing the weapon and opening fire, authorities claim.

Witnesses said the gunman appeared to pick his targets at random, shooting them in the head, before laying on the ground when he was finished.
Police said Santiago, who was arrested at the scene, was taken into custody with incident.

He was booked and charged by the Broward County Sherriff’s Office early on Saturday morning.

Officers are now investigating whether the suspect was a home grown terrorist or mentally disturbed.

Reports claim the US Army veteran walked into an FBI office in Alaska last month claiming voices urged him to join ISIS.

Some 20,000 bags and personal items left at the still closed terminal are yet to be claim, the New York Post reported.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott said this morning: ‘My heart goes out to everyone who was displaced yesterday.

‘I just think about this — I’m a dad, I’m a grand dad. I just just can’t imagine this happening to my family or any family. But the state stands ready to assist anyone.’
