President discussed implementation of Minsk agreements with Samantha Power. PHOTOS

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power who arrived to Ukraine to examine the process of implementation of the Minsk agreements.

"You cannot imagine how famous you are in Ukraine," the president joked at the beginning of the meeting noting that a lot of people in Ukraine watched the broadcast of the meetings of the UN Security Council regarding the Ukrainian issue.

The president has emphasized the importance of the UN Security Council's support for Ukraine and noted the high level of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the issues of security.

"Our greatest expectations on the implementation of the Minsk agreements are related to the support of the UN Security Council," Petro Poroshenko noted recalling his meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of May 8 in the course of which the parties had discussed the opportunity of involving the international peacekeeping contingent to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The president informed on Ukraine's strict compliance with its commitments under the Minsk agreements, particularly on the attempts to initiate political process through the organization of free and fair local elections and on their continuous violation by militants. According to the Head of State, when the Russia-backed militants attacked Ukrainian servicemen in Marinka, Donetsk region, on June 3, Ukraine fully observed the Minsk agreements and managed to defend Mariinka and demonstrate responsibility.

The Head of State has emphasized the importance of restoring Ukrainian control over the Ukrainian-Russian border and solving complicated humanitarian situation on the occupied territories. The president has noted the importance of establishing the UN Office in Kyiv for the maintenance of the Minsk agreements. Petro Poroshenko has agreed on that issue with Mr. Ban Ki-moon. According to the president, it will efficiently complement the activity of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.

The president is hopeful that coordinated efforts would help Ukraine become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He expressed gratitude to Samantha Power for her personal contribution to the defense of Ukraine's positions.

The president has noted that the establishment of the UN Office in Ukraine would help the Organization receive information on the situation in the country from the original source. "Now, we are taking measures to make the situation on the collision line more secure," the president said.

Petro Poroshenko has underlined the importance of solving the humanitarian problems of four million Ukrainians on the occupied territories who found themselves captured by militants.

In her turn, Samantha Power has expressed support to the territorial integrity of Ukraine. She has noted that the purpose of her visit was to examine the process of implementation of the Minsk agreements. She has also arrived to facilitate the establishment of the UN Office on the maintenance of the Minsk agreements in Ukraine.

She has also noted the importance of a "very powerful" statement by the G7 regarding Ukraine.

Samantha Power has praised the intention of the President to visit Donetsk region the following day. She has informed on her visit to the places of residence of IDPs from Donetsk region. Samantha Power was impressed with the way ordinary Ukrainians mobilize to assist the IDPs. According to her, she has visited a lot of countries with the problem of IDPs, but examples of mutual aid in Ukraine are unique.
