We are here in Kyiv at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands where members of the Ukrainian parliament have come to pay there respects to the 298 people who lost their lives last year when Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was downed when travelling over eastern Ukraine.

The Boeing 777 passenger jet was travelling between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down during some of the worst fighting between government forces and Russian-backed militants.

Oleksiy Goncharenko, Ukrainian Parliament Deputy: "Today it is exactly one year after the great catastrophe and awful tragedy which happened in the Ukrainian sky when the absolutely civil plane was shot down and almost 300 people, 298 people were killed, absolutely innocent people.

It was made by pro-Russian militants with Russian weapon and today the whole of Ukraine want to say our condolences to all relatives and to all nations who suffered from this tragedy and we came here just to say we remember, just to say these people who are guilty in this will be punished. We think the international criminal tribunal will be organized on the basis on the United Nations as all countries of the world are demanding; only Russia is against."

Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine are urging the UN Security Council to establish an international tribunal to prosecute those responsible for downing of MH17. Russia is so far rejecting the calls for tribunal.

Vadim Denisenko, Ukrainian Parliament Deputy:

"It was one of the most awful tragedies in the beginning of the 21st century and it was one of the biggest tragedies for Ukraine and all Ukrainian people but in general we have to tell after this tragedy Europe understood what does it mean Russian aggression in Donbass and after this tragedy Europe understood it was Russian weapon and it was Russian soldiers in our territory."
