United States sharply criticized Russia for its air strikes in Syria by opponents of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, saying that these attacks only strengthen extremist group "Islamic State", against which they supposedly directed.
As stated by the US permanent representative to the United Nations Samantha Power, these attacks that killed dozens of civilians, forced thousands to flee from their homes, destroying schools and markets, give new strength to the Islamists, reports Radio Liberty.
Speaking on Thursday at a meeting of the UN Security Council, she remembered the analysis of official data from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian strikes in Syria, which has carried out the agency "Reuters": nearly 80 percent of Russian attacks carried out in the territories, where there are no militant "Islamic state".
As noted by Power, Russia for its attacks against the non-extremist opponents of Assad thus strengthened the relative power of the "Islamic state", and the group took advantage of the Russian-Syrian campaign and captured new territory in the countryside province of Aleppo in northern Syria.
Ever since Russia began its attacks in Syria, the map positions of the parties in Syria has changed in favor of "Islamic state", said the representative of the United States.
