Areas near the village of Kamyanka in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone in eastern Ukraine saw a face-to-face combat between Russian-backed militants and Ukrainian troops on Thursday, according to the ATO press center.
During the fighting, the enemy was forced to retreat to the starting position, the press center said.
"Today the terrorists in the ATO zone concentrated their attacks on the Donetsk sector alone. Using grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms, the mercenaries were shelling the villages of Pisky [near the ruined Donetsk airport], Opytne, and the towns of Maryinka and Avdiyivka. At about 15:00 local time on Thursday, a skirmish started near the village of Kamyanka. A group of six fighters approached our positions closer than 200 meters and opened fire. The Ukrainian military fired back and the enemy had to retreat 25 minutes after," the ATO press center said.
