The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens in Hollywood this spring

LOS ANGELES — Hold onto your wands: Hogwarts West is coming.

Universal Studios Hollywood announced Tuesday that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is (finally) opening on April 7, 2016.

Universal also released a magical TV spot, as part of the "spellbinding campaign" and countdown leading up to the opening date.

Like the Florida theme park, Hollywood's will be set up like the wizarding village of Hogsmeade, with shops such as Honeydukes, The Hog's Head, Dervish and Banges, and Zonko's Joke Shop.

Ride-wise, visitors can expect to hop on the new “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey,” a hyper-realistic 3D-HD "designed to further immerse guests in an already engaging storyline." In the updated adaptation of the ride, guests will sport Quidditch-inspired 3D goggles to get the full 360-degree experience. The Hollywood theme park will also have a “Flight of the Hippogriff" ride.

"The land will be faithful to the visual landscape of the fiction and films, including Hogwarts castle which will serve as its iconic focal point," Universal said in its release.
