The former head of Russia's anti-doping agency, Nikita Kamaev, has died of a heart attack, it is reported.

Kamaev, who resigned as executive director of Rusada just two months ago, passed away shortly after a skiing session.

His death was 'presumably' caused by a heart attack, according to the country's Tass news agency.

Further details of Kamaev's death remain unclear, and the cause is yet to be confirmed.

Ramil Khabriev, Rusada's former director general, said of his ex-colleague's passing: "It looks like an extensive infraction.

"He complained of heartache after a skiing session. He has never complained about heart problems, at least to me. Maybe his wife knew about such problems."

Kamaev, Khabriyev and other top executives at Rusada all resigned from their posts in December amid one of the biggest doping scandals in history.

A month earlier, an explosive report by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had accused various athletes and sports officials of state-backed doping abuse.

The 323-page document also ruled that Rusada had not complied with the code of the international anti-doping organisation.

The executives' departures came as Russia started working on lifting its suspension from international athletics ahead of this year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
