Bananas are renowned for their excellent nutritional value. So forget all those expensive exotic fruit trends that keep coming out of the woodwork lately, all you really need is your trusty banana. They are deliciously tasty and relatively inexpensive.
But when you eat a banana, do you simply discard the peel, or do you recycle it for other uses?
You may be surprised to learn that there is more to a banana peel than first meets the eye!
1. Banana peels are an effective home remedy for removing warts.
Not only do the peels remove annoying warts they also prevent their recurrence. All you have to do is cut a portion of the peel and place it on the affected area secure with a plaster and leave it overnight. Repeat until it dissapears.
2. Teeth whitening.
Bananas are rich in potassium which is a mineral believed to act as a teeth whitener. Choose a banana that is nice and ripe so it has high amounts of potassium and rub it onto your teeth for two minutes then let stand for ten minutes. Finish by brushing your teeth.
3. Meat tenderizer.
Place some banana peels together with your meat inside the pan as you cook, and your meat will be juicy and succulent.
4. Rose fertilizer.
Everyone knows bananas are good for compost, but they are specifically good food for roses.
5. Mosquito bite reliever.
Mosquito bites are enough to drive anyone insane, using banana peel you can relieve itching and swelling on the affected area.
6. Splinter removal.
Got a splinter? Squeeze a piece of peel onto the affected area for several hours or overnight. The peel softens the skin which makes it easier for the splinter to come out.
7. Acne Treatment
Got skin problems? Banana peels can help you with all of your acne problems, all you have to do is rub the peel on your face for ten minutes and leave it alone for some time let the residue work its magic.
8. Shoe polisher
Ran out of shoe polish? Not to worry, just take a banana and rub it on your shoes for a nice shine.
9. Prevent wrinkles
Are you worrying about wrinkles on your face? Banana peels contain lots of vitamin C and other antioxidants which enhance collagen production and boosts circulation.
10. Silver polish.
Polishing silver can take some real elbow grease. Make it super easy by blending peels with water and use it as polish, it’s a game changer!
11. Aphid control
Aphids in your garden seem to HATE bananas. Chop some peels up and spread them around your plants to keep them aphid free.
12. For bruises
Bruises heal quicker when you rub them occasionally with banana peel.
