A SHOCKING X-ray has emerged showing how a huge bolt from an Islamic State (ISIS) nail bomb lodged just inches from a Brussels attacks victim's heart.
The disturbing image demonstrates the horrendous cruelty of the jihadis' arsenal, which was designed to inflict maximum casualties in an enclosed space.
The three-inch bolt, which was in a bomb detonated by crazed Islamists at the city's airport, pierced the victim's chest but miraculously stopped just inches short of their heart.
This shocking X-ray image was taken at the Military Hospital in Neder-over-Heembeek, in northern part of the Belgian capital, where the survivor was taken for treatment.
At least 34 people were killed and almost 200 injured when twisted Islamist maniacs detonated a suitcase full of nails at the American Airlines check-in desk at Brussels airport and a further device on the city's Metro system.
Terrified passengers at Brussels Airport, where at least one nail bomb was detonated, told how there was "just blood" everywhere after this morning's bomb blast.
Witnesses likened the horrific aftermath to "the apocalypse" as blood-soaked passengers sprinted for their lives and smoke filled the area near the check in desks.
Alphonse Youla, who was working on a stand putting security wrapping around suitcases, said: "I heard a man shout some Arabic words then an explosion.. then a second explosion, a massive explosion, much bigger.
"It was a horror. I saw at least seven people dead. There was blood. People had lost legs. You could see their bodies but no legs."
One witness struggled to hold back tears as he described victims who had lost their legs lying in pools of blood in the airport's main hall.
Others described seeing "dismembered bodies everywhere" and revealed how the ceiling collapsed after two blasts rocked the building.
The evil Islamic State (ISIS) have claimed responsibility for the Brussels terror attack, according to AMAQ, the news agency affiliated with the terror group.
A statement from AMAQ, said: "Islamic State fighters opened fire inside Zaventem Airport, before several of them detonated their explosive belts, as a martyrdom bomber detonated his explosive belt in the Maalbeek metro station."
The terror group have since released a statement warning there will be “dark days” ahead if the West retaliates.
