THE Duchess of Cambridge went for an elegant look tonight in a £2,535 Alice Temperley outfit for the Queen’s birthday party in New Delhi.
On the second day of the royal tour of India and after a wardrobe malfunction earlier when her dress nearly blew up in the wind, Kate changed into a loose fitting Temperley London crop top and embroidered long skirt for a party attended by senior Indian politicians and other VIPs to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.
According to the London fashion house, one of the Duchess favourites, the £830 Delphia crop top “carries the season’s theme of global curiosities with opulent embroidery motifs of Indian chintz and lattice”.
Kate, naturally, paired it with the firm’s £1,705 long Delphia skirt, which its designer says is “for bohemian elegance”, although the top can be worn as daywear with a high waist trouser or skirt.
The long beaded skirt carries opulent embroidery motifs of Indian chintz and lattice. Cut to a flattering ankle-length, the skirt drapes effortlessly in a contemporary a-line silhouette, the firm says.
Earlier today Kate had a Marilyn Monroe moment when her white gown flew up in the wind as she laid a wreath with her husband William at India Gate, the country's national war memorial.
The Duchess was bothered by strong gusts which sent her Emilia Wickstead outfit billowing in the air and wrapped her hair about her face.
Kate only just managed to hold the dress down and compose herself during the sombre ceremony which honoured the 70,000 Indian soldiers who died fighting for the British Army during the First World War.
The Queen has previously advised Kate to attach weights to the hem of her dresses in order to avoid this particular embarrassment.
