Human remains found, suspect arrested in case of missing Seattle-area woman

A 37-year-old man has been arrested after human remains believed to be those of a missing Seattle-area mother of three were found in a recycling bin, authorities said late Monday. 

Ingrid Lyne, 40, was last seen Friday night before going on a blind date to a Seattle Mariners game, Q13 Fox reported.

Seattle Police said late Monday that John Robert Charlton, 37, had been arrested in connection with Lyne’s disapperance and booked into King County Jail for investigation of homicide. The Seattle Times reported that several of Lyne's friends had posted images of Charlton on social media, identifying him as her date. 

It was not immediately clear through which site Lyne met Charlton.

Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole said detectives believe the human remains are that of Lyne.

"All evidence leads in the direction of that missing woman," O'Toole said. The King County Medical Examiner's Office will make the final determination of identity.

According to O'Toole, police don't believe there are any other suspects in the case.

The Seattle Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Lyne's missing SUV, a silver 2015 Toyota Highlander, with Washington state license plate AUW3230.

Police said in a news release that the remains were discovered Saturday afternoon in a recycling container belonging to a resident of Seattle's Central District. Authorities said the victim was tentatively identified based on observations by investigators, but did not elaborate further.

Investigators determined the remains, which were packaged in plastic bags, had been placed in the bin late Friday or early Saturday. A police spokesman said the bin would have been emptied because recyclables were collected on the block on Fridays.

Lyne had been reported missing Saturday morning after she failed to pick up her three daughters, Q13 Fox reported. The children are now staying with a family friend. 

"The purse, the telephone and everything was in the house," neighbor Edward Franceschina told Q13 Fox, adding that Lyne was checking her mail the last time he saw her, on Friday afternoon. 

Police broke through the front door of her home in Renton Saturday to look for clues, KIRO reports. "It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood and a pretty quiet cul-de-sac so it was a little weird to see all the police activity," neighbor Dawn Early said.

Seattle's nonprofit Swedish Medical Center confirmed Lyne was an employee. 

Renton is located 11 miles southeast of downtown Seattle.
