Chris Christie finally has a role in the Donald Trump campaign besides standing behind him and inspiring any number of social media memes about whether his appearances with the presumptive GOP nominee are similar to a hostage video.
The New Jersey governor is now Trump’s Transition Team Chairman, according to a release Monday from the Trump campaign.
“Governor Christie is an extremely knowledgeable and loyal person with the tools and resources to put together an unparalleled Transition Team, one that will be prepared to take over the White House when we win in November,” Trump said in the release. “I am grateful to Governor Christie for his contributions to this movement.”
Christie’s role will be to prepare Trump’s team “to take over the White House, and all that entails, in the fall.” According to the release, Christie’s new role is part of Trump’s shift to a general election strategy.
The New Jersey governor became the highest-profile elected official to back Trump's presidential bid at the time when he endorsed the real estate mogul's White House bid in late February ahead of Super Tuesday.
