BRITISH Special Forces officers are assisting one of France’s counter terrorist teams following fears a ‘sleeper cell’ from the UK has slipped into the country to launch an attack on the Euro 2016 tournament.
Europe and Britain’s secret services are reviewing the worst case scenarios possible after crazed Islamic State fanatics threatened to attack Western civilians during the month long championships.
At least 300 British-born jihadis have travelled to war-torn Syria to fight for the savage death cult and at least 100 ‘sleeper cells’ are currently in the UK, according to security experts.
David Cameron revealed earlier this month that British security forces have foiled several attacks by Daesh delinquents.
One of them is thought to be an attack on Army Reservists at a centre for part-time paratroopers in west London, which was to include an attempt to kidnap an off duty soldier and murder him.
And now, security experts working at the Joint Terrorist Analysis Cell are believed to have passed secret information to France safety chiefs regarding known UK extremists, according to the Daily Star Online.
A team of MI6 and SAS officers have also reportedly joined France’s counter terror team in a bid to thwart any impending threat to the tournament.
It comes as British ministers agreed to give French officials all the help required – sending specialists from M16, the Joint Terrorist Analysis Cell and the Home Office to Paris.
The SAS soldiers – believed to be three Captains and a Major – are from what is known as the ‘inner sanctum’ and work with GCHQ and MI6 to track down jihadis.
They also reportedly carry a mile on Britain ‘most dangerous’ Islamic extremists.
A senior insider told the Daily Star Online: “Our people are part of a liaison team to provide advice and tactical guidance as well as resources if required.
“The problem is the number of hardline Islamic community in the UK has grown and we simply cannot monitor them all”.
It was revealed last night that Britain’s Ministry of Defence is supporting a secret contingency plan with 350 paratroopers who have been taking part in war-games in Poland and have now been repositioned in Germany along with US and Nato troops.
A source said there are 35 helicopters and 2,000 Nato troops stationed in Germany.
They revealed if anything happens they have the capability to support the French if they need help closing down their borders.
