NIGEL Farage has said the European Union referendum result is “not a game of the best of three” after a Labour MP backed a petition calling for a second referendum.
Former Labour Minister David Lammy backed the viral petition – which has more than 2.5 million signatures – saying: “We can stop this madness.”
The Tottenham MP claims the referendum is not legally binding and can be overturned by the Commons – where a majority of MPs support remaining in the 27-nation bloc.
But the Ukip leader ferociously hit back at the mammoth petition, saying: “It’s the last thing I want to see. It’s not a game of the best of three.”
Mr Lammy, 43, took a swipe at Boris Johnson for his “lies” behind the Leave campaign.
He said: “Wake up. We do not have to do this. We can stop this madness and bring this nightmare to an end through a vote in Parliament.
"Our sovereign Parliament needs to now vote on whether we should quit the EU.
“It was an advisory, non-binding referendum. The Leave campaign’s platform has already unravelled and some people wish they hadn’t voted to leave.
“Parliament needs to decide whether we should go forward with Brexit. Let us not destroy our economy on the basis of lies and the hubris of Boris Johnson.”
This comes as Britain’s top election expert shot down the petition, claiming it has no chance of securing a second EU referendum.
Professor John Curtice said: "It's no good people signing the petition now, they should have done it before.
“Even then, these petitions don't always mean a great deal.
"It has passed the 100,000 mark for it to be debated in Parliament. All that means is that some MPs will say, 'It's a terrible shame', others will say, 'Hallelujah'. Then that's the end of it."
