Adopt a Remainer! Campaign launched by Romania for Brits desperate to stay part of EU

A CAMPAIGN has been launched for ‘Romanians to adopt Remainians’ in the wake of Brexit.

The country’s main newspaper, Bucharest-based daily Gandul, has launched the scheme for Brits willing to go the extra-mile to stay part of the EU.

The campaign, named Romanians for Remainians, will see disaffected Brits taken in by “loving Romanian families” and crucially — stay part of Europe. 

The UK voted to exit the EU after 52 per cent choose to Leave against 48 wanting to Remain.

A website for the scheme says: “Fellow Romanians, the good people who voted Remain and share European values deserve to be our relatives.

“Dear Brits who believe in a united Europe, leave the Brexiters, the quarrelling and the weather behind. Start a brand new life in a loving Romanian family.”

After signing up people are asked to add in their Facebook profile so they can be matched up with people living in Romania.

Adoptees are given a new name — adding the suffix ‘escu’ to their existing one — and are informed who they have been adopted by. 

In 2013 it responded to adverts aimed at discouraging Romanians from coming to the UK, publishing a poster which read: “We may not like Britain, but you will love Romania.”

Immigration from countries such as Romania to the UK is widely regarded as one of the driving factors behind voters opting for Brexit.
