North and South Korean gymnasts pose for selfie at Rio Games

Hong Un-jong from North Korea and Lee Eun-ju of South Korea took a picture together.

Two athletes from North and South Korea have been praised for promoting the spirit of the Olympic Games after posing for a selfie together.

Hong Un-jong from North Korea and Lee Eun-ju of South Korea took the picture during a training session ahead of the competition at the Rio Olympic Arena.

Technically North and South Korea are still at war although there is an armistice in place.

Tensions have also increased over the past few months because of Pyongyang's long-range missile tests including the most recent on August 3.

But all of that was put aside when the two athletes smiled for the camera.

The Rio Olympics are the first for 17-year-old Lee but 27-year-old Hong is a veteran competitor.

She won North Korea's first ever Olympic medal at the Beijing Games in 2008 when she claimed the Gold on the horse.
