Nicole Perlman and Gravity Falls scribe Alex Hirsch are in talks to write the new film based on the popular game.

Pokémon Go has permeated the nation’s consciousness since the app exploded into a worldwide phenomenon, leading to a 25% jump in shares for part owner of the brand Nintendo.

Now production on a new live action Pokémon film is set to begin in 2017 – and the writers in talks to pen it have plenty of pedigree.

Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman, who penned Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor, are understood to be in discussions to co-write the screenplay.

The film will centre on Detective Pikachu, a new character in the Pokémon ensemble introduced through a video game released in Japan earlier this year.

Plot details are yet to be unveiled, but the original game revolved around hat-wearing sleuth Detective Pikachu helping a young boy named Tim find his father.

Legendary Entertainment, the production company behind The Dark Knight Trilogy and Warcraft (based on video role-playing game World of Warcraft) have secured the rights to the film.
