The rusted remains of the spooky freight train were found at the bottom of Lake Superior – the largest of the five Great Lakes of North America.

The train crashed in 1910, killing three men, with one body still missing.

The CPR 694 freight train flew into the lake after hitting a boulder on the track and hasn't been seen since.

The locomotive plunged 60 feet off a cliff following a landslide into the waters of Lake Superior.

But, last month an underwater recovery expert named Tom Crossmon and a team of shipwreck hunters found the train on the bottom of the lake among a field of boulders.

Mr Crossmon used a remotely operated vehicle with a video camera to search for the wreck.

He said: "This is the only locomotive that I'm aware of in the Great Lakes.

It's too damaged to be raised, but some items may be removed
"To think that we were the first people in 106 years to see something that hasn't been seen. It's pretty impressive, that feeling.

"It's pretty beat up. There was this dream that if it could be found, it would be brought up and placed in a museum.

"Based on the amount of damage, I don't think that's likely.

"It's too damaged to be raised but some items may be removed, depending on the Government."
