Shocking footage shows the moment an 11-year-old boy slipped from a chair lift high above a ski slope, his parents clinging on to stop him plummeting down to the mountain.
As tourists looked on, they faced an agonising wait for emergency services to arrive.
It took place on Mount Hutt at Canterbury Plains in New Zealand’s South Island, about 10 metres above the ground.
Witness Tony Kramers filmed the terrifying ordeal, which thankfully ended safely when mountain rescue placed a mattress underneath for the child to drop down safely.
‘Well done to the Mt Hutt team who’s quick thinking saved this fella from some bad injuries … Looks not too far to fall but watch how long the free fall is,’ Mr Kramer told the NZ Herald.

Ski area general manager James Urquhart said rescue staff ‘were right there, grabbed the tower-mat and the whole thing was over in about a minute and a half.’
Amazingly, the family carried on skiing after picking themselves back up.
