Woman spends nearly £300 saving pet goldfish’s life

We can often get very attached to our pets, even treating them as another member of the family.

So it’s no surprise that this pet owner took drastic measures when she noticed her pet goldfish was choking.
Emma Marsh was forced to rush Conquer, the goldfish to the vets after noticing he was struggling after choking on a piece of shingle in his tank.

The 21-year-old, from Kuraby, Australia, took him to Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Service in Greenslopes where vets had to drip anaesthetic into his water until he fell asleep.

They then tilted his mouth out of the water to use forceps to extract the lodged stone.
Vet Emma McMillan told Brisbane’s Courier Mail: ‘He is 13g and only 5cm long.

‘The pebble was about eight or nine millimetres long and was stuck lengthways across the side of his mouth, which is why he couldn’t spit it out.

‘He was making excessive mouth movements trying to dislodge it … if we did nothing he would have starved to death.’

Luckily, Conquer was rescued in time and soon recovered from his traumatic experience.
But Ms Marsh was left with a $100 (£75) bill for the emergency consultation plus $400 (£300) for the anaesthetic and an overnight stay in hospital.
That’s a total of $500 (£284.00)…but it’s all worth it for a pet right?
