Every so often restaurants have to update their signage to reflect any special deals they have going or changes in menu.
Obviously it was that time of the year for Treats Family Restaurant in Lonsdale, Minnesota, which put this up outside the storefront.

‘FOOD ICE CREAM M-SAT CB FRY, POP 5.99 11/4 MUSLIMS GET OUT’
Er, sorry… What was that last bit?
The owner of Treats had, seemingly at
the last minute, decided to tack a bit of overt racism on to the end of his sign.
And people dealt with this the way they deal with most horrifically stupid things these days – they took the piss.

The restaurant’s Yelp page also got shut down by a massive influx of negative reviews.

‘I’ve been served better food in a Turkish prison,’ one reviewer wrote, according to City Pages. ‘Nice try with the homemade ice cream. I know repackaged Kemp’s ice cream when I taste it, I’m not a complete moron like your racist owner.’

Another posted: ‘The owner is a racist and this garbage dump isn’t even ‘This asshat and his so-called supporters are an embarrassment to the state of Minnesota and the United States of America.’

And one person went for the sarcastic (we hope) approach: ‘Great food, great atmosphere, great service! And I feel totally safe eating here knowing my family won’t be attacked or blown up! What a great American family eatery!’
In response to the massive, totally-deserved backlash, Treats’ owner Dan Ruedinger told Fox KMSP that he’s ‘not racist’.

Apparently, he had meant to write out ‘Muslim extremists’ but he ran out of room on the board.
‘I didn’t want to put “terrorist” on the board, so we were going to put “Muslim extremist”, but we didn’t have room on the board,’ he said.
‘People started taking it the wrong way and thinking we were against Muslims in general and we’re not, quite the opposite. We are not racist.’
