Star Trek cast pen open letter urging America to reject Donald Trump at the upcoming election

The mission statement of the starship Enterprise might be ‘to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations,’ but one future no Trekky wants to explore is one with Donald Trump taking seat in the White House.

A group of Star Trek cast members, producers, directors and family members have boldly gone on Facebook to set up an anti-Trump group to urge fans of the long-running sci-fi franchise to vote for Hilary Clinton at the upcoming US presidential election.

Trek Against Trump says The Donald’s political beliefs fly in the face of everything that Star Trek envisaged – the team note in an open letter on Facebook.

‘Never has there been a presidential candidate who stands in such complete opposition to the ideals of the Star Trek universe as Donald Trump,’ the group says.

‘We need to elect a president who will move this country forward into the kind of future we all dream of: where personal differences are understood and accepted, where science overrules superstition, where people work together instead of against each other,’ they continue.

Taking a Vulcan viewpoint, the message adds it would be ‘both illogical and inaccurate’ to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson or the Green Party’s Jill Stein as ultimately only Trump or Clinton will win the election – with votes for anyone else essentially being a waste of time.

The letter is presented as being signed by current reboot director/producer JJ Abrams and much of the current big screen cast including Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Zachary Quinto (Spock).

Other notable names include Voyager’s Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway), Deep Space Nine’s Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax), The Next Generation’s Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) and Original Series star George Takei (Sulu).
