World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has reneged on a claim earlier today that he had retired from boxing.
Earlier on Monday the Manchester born boxer appeared to suggest he was quitting the sport.
In an expletive-laden tweet we wrote: ‘I’m the greatest and I’m also retired’.
However, with the world’s media reporting that Fury had hung up his gloves, it appears the self-style Gypsy King was simply having a bit of a laugh.
He wrote on social media: ‘Hahahaha u think you will get rid of the GYPSYKING that easy!!! I’m here to stay’.
The 28-year-old has twice pulled out of contractual rematches against Wladimir Klitschko, including one earlier this summer reportedly due to mental health issues. That led to speculation he would retire.
More recently he made headlines after allegedly testing positive for cocaine. Fury appeared to poke fun at that particular allegation when he posted a mock-up photo of him as Scarface character Tony Montana.
Fury ended Wladimir Klitschko’s 11-year reign at the top of the heavyweight division last November. Winning on points in Germany, Fury claimed the IBO, WBA, WBO and IBF belts, although he was latter stripped of the latter.
