The whole house is starting to collapse around Donald J. Trump.
While many high-profile Republicans — Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan — have criticised Donald Trump's sexually aggressive comments about women, only a few have publicly stated their intention not to vote for their party's nominee.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican governor of California for eight years, has today voiced his decision to not vote for Donald Trump in November.
In a statement posted to his Twitter account, the actor-turned-politician wrote "For the first time since I became a citizen in 1983, I will not vote for the Republican candidate for President."
As proud as I am to label myself a Republican, there is one label that I hold above all else — American. My full statement: pic.twitter.com/biRvY8S3aZ
— Arnold (@Schwarzenegger) 8 октября 2016 г.
While the statement does not disavow Donald Trump by name, it makes clear Arnie's desire to "remind my fellow Americans that it is not only acceptable to choose your country over your party, it is your duty."
Schwarzenegger's statement was released just minutes after Donald Trump's own pick for Vice President Mike Pence issued a statement calling Trump's comments "indefensible."
The furore has emerged in the wake of a leaked recording of Donald Trump discussing women, admitting "I just kiss them, I don't even wait" and "You can do whatever you want to them. Grab them by the pussy."
