A diver somehow survived this terrifying encounter with a massive great white shark that burst into an underwater metal cage.
Shocking footage that will make you think twice about ever going in the sea again shows the relief of people on board a boat as the diver eventually emerges from the cage.
BBC introduced Nicola Sturgeon – then played footage of gorilla that escaped from London Zoo
It came after the huge beast tore through the cage’s metal bars while trying to devour a piece of bait.
A quick-thinking crew member pops the hatch of the cage, to allow either man or fish an escape route, and the gigantic predator briefly flails above the surface.
Anxious moments follow its escape as those watching wait for the diver to appear – which he does, apparently unharmed.
The clip, believed to be filmed off the coast of the US, shows the 10ft long shark bleeding, possibly having cut itself on the metal bars.
A description of the video, which was posted on YouTube, reveals how the shark found itself inside the cage.
Seal sneaks up the Thames into London and has to be rescued
It reads: ‘These awesome sharks are biting at large chunks of tuna tied to a rope.
‘When a great white shark lunges and bites something, it is temporarily blinded. They also cannot swim backwards.‘So this shark lunged at the bait, accidentally hit the side of the cage, was most likely confused and not able to swim backwards, it thrust forward and broke the metal rail of the cage.’
It also explains how the diver made a seemingly impossible escape.
He ended up outside the bottom of the cage, looking down on two great white sharks.
The diver is a very experienced dive instructor, remained calm, and when the shark thrashed back outside the cage, the diver calmly swam back up and climbed out completely uninjured.
The boat crew did an outstanding job, lifting the top of the cage, analyzing the frenzied situation, and the shark was out after a few long seconds.
