Chaos as massive blaze breaks out on plane and passengers escape

The terrifying moment that passengers desperately escaped from an aircraft that burst into flames has been caught on camera.

Chaotic scenes show people fleeing the Boeing 747 after a massive blaze broke out while the plane was on a runway at the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois.

The plane’s 161 passengers and nine crew members were forced to use the emergency chutes to escape as the aircraft went up in flames.

Seven passengers and a flight attendant suffered minor injuries in the incident, involving an American Airlines flight bound for Miami, Florida, and were taken to hospital.

One clip shows passengers escaping down the plane’s chute, close to roaring flames, while an alarm sounds.

Another video was posted on Instagram with the caption: ‘Tell me why the f*****g plane I was just on blew up on takeoff!?! Thank God I got off. Blessed man. So blessed. Scariest s**t ever. Special thanks to the pilots and crew for getting us off safely!’

In the footage, people appear to be crying in the background as emergency vehicles arrive and thick black smoke rises into the sky.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro said American Airlines Flight 383 blew a tyre and damaged an engine, causing take-off to be cancelled and people to be evacuated.
