ITV Sport announced on Friday that Sir Anthony McCoy, the retired 20-times champion jump jockey, would be part of its broadcast team from next year when the network begins exclusive free to air coverage.

In news announced during the halftime interval of the England v Scotland World Cup qualifier, the channel said McCoy would work as an expert analyst on big days next year.

He will start on January 1, alongside main presenter Ed Chamberlin, when ITV kicks off its new era at Cheltenham on New Year's Day at the start of a four year contract.

McCoy said: "I feel very lucky to still be part of a sport I am passionate about. Racing always has, and always will, be a huge part of my life, and I'm looking forward to being involved in what should be an exciting year for the sport and for ITV."

Niall Sloane, ITV director of sport, said: "AP McCoy is a figure who transcends the sport of racing. We're delighted he's joining our team, which can only benefit from his unique expertise and love for the sport."
