Roger Federer will not play again this year after confirming he will miss the International Premier Tennis League in India.
The Swiss star has been out of action since July after suffering a knee injury and had been looking to get back on court before the end of the year, building up to the Australia Open in January.
However, Federer won't be returning to the International Premier Tennis League next week due to "uncertainties" surrounding the event.
With Serena Williams also set to miss the event, Mahesh Bhupathi, the managing director of the IPTL, admitted it was a blow to lose the duo. He said: "With the current economic climate in India and the uncertainty of spending money, I reached out to both Roger and Serena to explain the situation.
"They have been both been very supportive of the IPTL the first two seasons and we look forward to bring them in future years."
