Diners saw in the new year with massive restaurant fight

A huge fight broke out at a restaurant in Manchester with tables, chairs, bottles and food thrown between rival groups.

Dozens of people started scrapping at the Sakana restaurant during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Fighting broke out at the venue at around 2am with many people diving for cover.
It is believed an argument started when the restaurant area closed and people were asked to move into the bar.

A witness said: ‘The fight started in Sakana after midnight around 2am. Some people got hurt a little because bottles, chairs and tables were flying. People said it was horrible like in a movie.

‘The fight went on outside and the road was closed off by police and some guys got hurt because the fight was vile.’

The shocking footage shows guests at the city centre venue involved in large scale brawl in the first hours of 2017.

The footage shows both men and women ducking for cover and racing away from the violence and many can be heard screaming, shouting and swearing.

As a man in a white shirt launches several bottles and missiles across the bar, two men tumble to the ground on top of each other and then start fighting again.

A woman in a red dress is then carried away from the scene by a man as several others quickly move to leave the venue.
A spokesperson said there was a countdown event at the venue and guests enjoyed a ‘successful night’.

But they confirmed that fighting broke out in the first floor bar area at around 2am.
A spokesperson said: ‘The management team and all of our staff at Sakana would like to extend our apologies to everyone caught up in the unfortunate events on New Year’s Eve.

‘We are working closely with police and encourage anyone with any information about this event to pass it on to the police.’

The £1million restaurant opened back in 2014 and has become a popular haunt with both celebrities and locals.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for a comment.
Sakana opened for customers as normal yesterday.
