The Russian Federation is in decay and its population could fall to just 20 million people, the first president of post-communist Poland and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Lech Walesa said in an interview with Ukrainian online newspaper Ekonomichna Pravda on Tuesday. This is reported by Coruption.Info.

"Russia has a minimum of 60 nations. It could break up and be left with a population of 20 million people," he said.

"If that happens, the countries that form on the territory of Russia could create their ‘own EU,’" Walesa said.

"A union of the new states will take place, but under other principles. There will be a leveling of rates of economic development, the countries will begin to open up for cooperation in various configurations," he said.

"Russia has lagged behind the West by 30-50 years and has never been a free and democratic country.

"Russia has never lived according to the principles of the Western world. By its actions, Putin is gnawing at the European and global solidarity," Walesa said.

Asked about what protective measures should be taken in the West due to the aggression by Russia, Walesa said: "All that can be done, up to the import of nuclear missiles. It is important to show that we have them, and they are better than in Russia. To scare Putin. He frightens us with Grads — we should scare him with another, better weapon."
