The huge blaze that broke out in the Ukrainian town of Vasylkiv near Kyiv late Monday with more explosions early Tuesday took lives of five people, including three firefighters, with nearly a dozen more having suffered from smoke inhalation.
The exclusion zone has been extended to 10km around the fuel depot, while many local residents were evacuated, Ukraine Today reports.
National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchinov has warned of the possible detonation of a military arsenal located nearby, while the Ukraine’s defense minister, Stepan Poltorak, assured that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent this from happening.
The fire was brought under control in the early hours of Wednesday, according to officials.
Meanwhile, arson and a technical failure are among the main theories put forward by investigators into the cause of the fire.
