Ukrainian roofer Yevhen Lata marks Ukraine's Independence Day in Africa

Odesa-born roofer Yevhen Lata On August 24 hoisted the Ukrainian national flag on the highest point of Africa.

Lata wrote in a message posted to the Internet: "To mark Ukraine's Independence Day, we hoisted our blue-and-yellow flag on the highest peak of Africa — on the volcano Kibo, part of the Kilimanjaro mountai group".

The roofer raised the flag at an altitude of 5,895 meters above sea level.

Lata wrote: "Now it will be waving in the wind at a height of 5895 meters above the sea level, greeting all the happy conquerors of Kilimanjaro. My motherland Ukraine, I wish you a happy Independence Day. We will win!"

Lata is a volunteer who supplies humanitarian aid to the east Ukraine war zone.

Recently, a Ukrainian flag has appeared on the Krymsky (Crimean) Bridge in the center of Moscow. According to Russian Dozhd TV channel, the flag had been draped on one of the bridge's pillars and was fluttering in the wind on Saturday (August 8) before getting stuck in a gap on Sunday (August 9). 

Over the past year the Russian capital has been littered with Ukrainina flags, showcased in protest over Moscow's military intervention in eastern Ukraine.
