A woman believed to be walking her dog in Jacksonville, Florida was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver. After the incident, the victim's dog was seen lying in the street near where the accident took place.
At approximately 6:15 a.m. on Friday, police responded to a call from someone who found a 42-year-old woman dead in the road. According to neighbors, the woman was believed to be walking her dog when the incident occurred, local CBS affiliate Action News Jax reports.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a semi-truck struck the woman in a nearby convenience store parking lot, dragging her into the street. Police also said that the driver may not be aware that they struck the woman, reports Action News Jax.
The woman was later identified by the family as Kelly Black.

The victim's dog, Paco, a rescue dog from Hurricane Katrina, stayed at the scene of the accident until family members arrived.

Reporter Russell Colburn filmed a video of family members retrieving Paco, where the dog's tail can be seen wagging.
“I don’t see how someone could hit her here and drag her all the way out to Beaver Street and not have known it," G.C. Bostick the victim's father told Action News Jax. "I just don’t know how I’m going to tell her mama." "I just don’t know how I’m going to tell her mama."

The investigation is ongoing and police have obtained security camera footage from the convenience store.
